ALLEGED REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE’S ALLEGIANCE

FOUND UNVERIFIABLE TO THE REPUBLICAN PARTY PLATFORM

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

IDAHO FALLS, ID – Bonneville County GOP Chairman Doyle Beck announced today that Legislative Candidate David M. Smith (Dist. 33B) failed to submit an acceptable Disclosure Statement as to whether the candidate accepts and supports, all or in part, the Idaho Republican Party Platform as it is required in established Bonneville County Republican Central Committee (BCRCC)  By-Laws.

“It is because of this refusal of multiple requests that that neither I nor the Bonneville County Republican Central Committee are able to establish for certain the political party affiliation of Mr. Smith,” declared Chairman Beck.  “We are unable to verify whether he agrees or disagrees with the State of Idaho Party Platform.”

“Mr. Smith was the only state legislative candidate who failed to submit the disclosure form.  All other candidates in contested legislative races willingly complied with this requirement,” Chairman Beck said. “Moreover, Mr. Smith was the only legislative candidate in a contested race to skip the Bonneville County Republican Candidate’s Forum last night.”

The BCRCC By-Law Article XIX declares the following in its Sections 1 and 2:

  • “We, as members of the Bonneville County Central Committee, expect all individuals in government at all levels, including elected officials, to conduct themselves within the highest and strictest standards of personal conduct in carrying out their duties.”
  • “The People of Bonneville County demand leaders who will uphold their oath of office and the Constitution and are accountable to the people who elect them. We call upon the Bonneville County Chairman to communicate to the party in general information regarding adherence of Republican federal office holders, statewide office holders, State Legislators, county officers and Precinct Committee Officers to the state party platform and applicable resolutions adopted at our state conventions and party meetings.”
